The Four Reasons
Why We Scroll
And What to Do About It

Platforms are designed to be addictive. They're built to feed you emotional spikes, especially negative ones. They thrive on your fear, outrage, envy, and drama. Our brains have evolved to be extra sensitive to threats. In the wild, noticing threats helped you survive; now it just keeps you trapped and drained.

Procrastination
Ever find yourself endlessly scrolling even though you're supposed to be working on something important for school?
It's not laziness.
Its often fear, anxiety, or prefectionism.
What can we do about it?
Break up the specific task you've been procrastinating into little pieces, set a 5 minute timer, and just start. Once you start, the task at hand isn't as daunting as it was before.

Boredom
"Modern life has trained us to fear boredom." Ever been waiting for something and you feel the urge to fill the silence with scrolling?
The truth is, boredom is the only place creativity truly thrives.
What can we do instead?
Pick up a low-stimulation hobby. Doodling, crocheting, or baking. Its also okay to sit and silence and just think about things.

Emotional Overwhelm
Ever had a bad day and all you want to do is lay in bed and scroll for the rest of the night?
Sometimes we scroll to avoid harsh emotions and pent up fustrations. However, this doesn't make these negative emotions go away.
What can we do about it?
You don't have to fix the feeling, just acknowledge it. Take a deep breath, write about it, or go on a walk(without your phone).

Exhaustion
Ever crawl into bed and you start scrolling to "relax"? One video turns it five, and then fifteen. Then, all of a sudden, its 2 AM. You don't get enough sleep and the next day the cycle continues.
Scrolling isn't rest.
What can we do about it?
Replace your bedtime scrolling with a relaxing routine: a hot shower, music, reading a book, or stretching.
